Yemen unrest: Troops fire on Taiz protesters

 Yemeni security forces opened fire on anti-government protesters, killing at least 15 people and wounding several others, hospital officials say.

Witnesses said snipers opened fire on the roof when the demonstrators reached the governor's office in Taiz.

The snipers were also reportedly fired on protesters during a March in the fourth largest city, Hudaida.

Disorders after weeks of protests across the country to ask President Ali Abdullah Saleh to retire.

He ruled the country for 32 years, and said he did not intend to leave immediately.

On Monday, a crowd of protesters in the southwestern city of Taiz, started walking towards Freedom Square - the focal point of events, where protesters were camping.

When the march ended at the offices of governor, the troops have blocked the procession and riots.

Activists described chaotic scenes with well-cooked and a military police take the bodies of the dead protesters.

"It 'was heavy fire in all directions. Some of the governor's shot on the roof of the building," the witness told the Associated Press.

Hospital sources said at least 15 people were killed and 30 others were injured.

Tanks and armored vehicles are now blocking the entrances to the city and surrounded by Freedom Square, arrest any person trying to quit.

The port city of Hudaida saw protesters gather in solidarity with the people of Taiz and try to march towards the presidential palace in the city.

However, the police opened fire with live ammunition and tear gas, leaving dozens wounded, witnesses and medics said.

"They suddenly gathered around the administration building of the province and headed towards the presidential palace, but police stopped them by firing into the air and using tear gas. I saw many policemen plainclothes attacked them also, "an unnamed witness quoted by Reuters news agency.
